Tai’erzhuang, the Most Beautiful Water Town in China?

Lee-la-version-en-espanol-aquiTai’erzhuang may not be easy to pronounce, but this ancient town dating as back as little over 200 B.C.  has been rebuilt in 2008 after it was destroyed during the Battle of Tai’erzhuang in the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1938, and some now claim it is the most beautiful water town in China. You can check out the pictures below and see what you think.

I went to Tai’erzhuang in 2013. The city is actually divided in two. One is just like any other Chinese city with all its good and bad things. The other part, is an enclosed area by a wall with a huge gate entrance. It is more like a large private area, like a neighborhood or suburb. It was interesting that I had to buy a ticket to have access to this part of the city. The entrance fee was CNY 200 (about 480 MXN or 32 USD). By the way, there are several other Chinese small cities that will also charge you an entrance fee.

Once I got in, I noticed that the city was very clean. I couldn’t really point at a real house, most buildings were empty or were businesses such as shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. Some buildings looked really artificial. There was one too obvious, its facade was Styrofoam covered painted with some sort of textured paint. I got inside some buildings and they were empty. Despite this fact, Tai’erzhuang is one of the best places for two things: Photography and couples. There are literally hundreds of angles you can choose from to get a beautiful picture. And for those who are looking for a romantic promenade or, why not?, even a honey moon, this is also an ideal place.

Tai’erzhuang has a river scenic area and a canal so you can have have a nice tour on a boat. There are also performances, street dragon dancers, a restaurant with Karaoke, art crafts, and a lot more.

Check out the pictures I took and see if you think is worth going or not. Don’t forget to leave a comment below!

A quick note: I took these picture very late at night and very early in the morning when most people were not around. If you go in the evening, some of these streets may be crowded.  And check also how different the town looks at night. Enjoy the pictures!

The church in the picture is just a facade. There aren't Catholic or protestant services here. On the right side of the "church" there is another beautiful building, that's the restroom and you can see on the second picture how the restroom lobby looks like.

Three pictures. On top a nice facade. The other two are described in the captions.

On the picture on the left you can see Styrofoam below the paint on the fence that suppose to look like solid concrete. On the right, one of the many empty buildings.

The inside of one of the old homes. This one seemed real, obviously some restoration might have taken place. But now you can have a nice warm drink inside.
